Home again...and working.

Wow! It has been a long time since I updated my blog! Sorry to my small following of friends.

Well, I made it back home to Minnesoooda safely, and had a great time catching up with family and friends! It was a lot colder here at home than I remembered it being when I left for CO. It has been crazy since I got home. A few days after I got back all of my extended family came to town from the far corners of the US for my Grandma Donna's memorial service. It was great to see all the family, and fun to hang out on the lake with everyone.

I got a dog...for Jessie. A black lab puppy, who was cute at first, then turned into a piddling terror! His name was Charlie and he was the smartest and sweetest dog I've ever seen (not that I've been around tons in my life...). But, in the end, when I started working and with Jessie working and moving into a new apartment that didn't allow pets we found Charlie a good home and passed him on to the next caring family. Hopefully one with lots of kids, because he had too much energy for my old bones!

Shortly after my extended family arrived, Jessie left for Nashville for the Immerse talent competition/workshop for Christian artists and singers. He did very well, and sang well, but there were only 25 spots in the competition and 150 singers to choose from and he didn't move on in the competition. He was ok with everything though, he got great feedback from the judges and learned a lot in the workshops. And after seeing family and friends in Paducah he came back home to me:)

I started working a new job at a little shop called Mason's on Main. It's a small clothing store, and I love it! It is a big change from Super One, but I really enjoy it. I like the work, I sell clothing, and rent out tuxes and different things. It is more my line of work than Super One. I also have been talking to my uncle and may start working as a Secretary for him in his law office. There have been so many new opportunities it's hard to keep up with them!

Everything just comes and goes, and I move around in my life that it's hard to notice all the new things happening until I sit down and start writing them all out! Hopefully I'll have a big, happy new thing to share in the near future, but you'll have to stay tuned for that tidbit:) "Don't touch that dial folks...you'll be the first to hear!"

Red Top Burgers

Today I ate a quarter of the largest burger I have ever seen. Gary took me to Red Top Burgers, and introduced me to a true Colorado Springs specialty.

I was expecting a large burger, because Gary told me it would be, but I think my eyes almost popped out of my head when the waitress arrived with my Mike's Mushroom Burger. It was a full 8 inches in width, and about 2 inches tall. It was stacked with bacon, mushrooms, an 8 oz. burger, onions, lettuce and tomato. ALL that before I even added my sauces. It also came with a side of onion rings. I was in a greasy form of Heaven.

After my amazed and loving looks at my giant burger I started trying to eat it. I cut a fourth of it out, pie style, and applied my sauces. It was amazingly good! After I finished eating my quarter of a burger with fixings and half of my onion rings and a large Dr. Pepper I knew there was no way I was eating any more of the Goliath of Burgers unless I wanted to lose it all soon after!

I packed up my still enormous burger and brought my stuffed self home.

Manitou

I spent the day today with my friends Cathy and Shannon. They are pretty awesome people:)

We went to Manitou this morning to look around and enjoy the hippiness. We visited tons of shops! I bought some gifts at the Manitou Trading Post, then we headed to Plinkity Plink. It's a small shop filled with very cool music boxes and a really weird maze with a battery operated "bug" running around in it. The best shop, in my opinion was The Leprechaun Shoppe where Cathy and I bought some pretty cool knives! Neither of us needed them, but they were a steal because the shoppe was going out of business. Broke as we were, we couldn't resist.

We ate at the Heart of Jerusalem Cafe, where I had my fabulous Hummus! Yay!! It was kind of awkward though because I had three people come up to me and ask what I was eating because it looked good :/ But, I enjoyed myself anyway, despite my ice water "crashing" into my face and spilling all down my front.

After Manitou we went back to Cathy and Shannon's house where we watched a movie, after which we went to Wendy's (where I got two Frosty's) and then to Walmart. We pretty much painted the town Mid-West style...and had a blast doing it. The entire time Cathy and I had the rap song "I Got It At Ross" stuck in our heads, much to the frustration of Shannon, I am sure. This was only intensified by the sighting of at least three Ross' during the day.

Somewhere during this time we hit up the Chapel Hill Mall, just to walk around. We made our way to Old Navy where we bought amazing bouncy balls for .25$ each and entertained ourselves by bouncing them around the mall. We were accosted by a man yelling in a middle-eastern accent, "do you girls want to buy my face cream? Come here and try it, you are very beautiful girls!" ...we simply ran away. Only to run into another man selling something that Shannon simply looked straight into his eyes and said VERY firmly, "No, thank you" and all he could do was wish a nice day. Cathy and I were very impressed with Shannon's ability to back off the walkway snipers with a single look.

The evening was finished off at Shannon and Cathy's house again, where we watched The Newsies (with Christian Bale) and then I was brought home. Overall it was a very enjoyable day, and I am going to miss these girls lots and lots!!

P.S. sorry if the writing is sloppy and disjointed...I'm very tired, but I wanted to write it all down before I forgot!

FLARP

At work yesterday, my boss (Gary, also my host 'dad') gave me a small container of Flarp. Flarp, for all of you who don't remember, is that really soft, silly putty stuff that makes fart sounds as you move it around and poke it in its container. It is the best invention for immature minds I have ever seen...

I used this Flarp to entertain the other interns during and after lunch and pretty much all day. We laughed and acted like 12 year old boys at lunch, seeing who could make the best fart sounds. I think I laughed too hard...it was a little embarrassing actually. I tend to have a pretty immature sense of humor and a lack of control of my laughter...not a good combination when you add Flarp to the mix.

Flarp is one of the most interesting substances to me. It's neither liquid nor solid...it just kind of molds around your fingers. It breaks apart with hard edges like a solid, but just turns to soup in your fingers. I could play with Flarp forever!

And this, ladies and gentlemen, is why I created a blog, so I could enlighten you all with my thoughts on Flarp. Hope you all enjoy it!

Colorado Springs

I am interning at Focus on the Family this summer in Colorado Springs. It has been one of the most exciting and rewarding experiences of my life. I have met so many wonderful people, both in my department and interns I am working with.

All of us interns have formed a very close friendship, and usually hang out several times a week. I am so impressed with the group of kids I am interning with; it is so encouraging to be around Christian Millennials who are passionate about both politics and helping people. I know this is the place God wants me to be this summer, in just the few weeks I've been here I have learned more than I thought I ever would. I am sad that my internship is soon coming to an end...I hope to always keep in contact with all of the people I have met here!

Interning with the Ministry Communications has really opened my eyes to my love of writing (thus this blog) as well as fighting for things I think are right. At Focus we not only talk about news, but we talk about how it relates to Christians, whether it's positive or not. I love that! I love being able to think about things that are going on in the crazy world around us, and making them not only interesting but relative to people. I also love reaching out to people and being a part of helping and encouraging families all over the world.

Overall, my internship has helped me grow as a person and showed me my passion of writing can be used to bring honor to God. I am looking forward to where God leads me in the coming months and years.
